99 percent of people in the country have access to healthy sanitation: Prime Minister
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that 99 percent of the country's population has been brought under the umbrella of hygienic sanitation and safe water sources. This was 33 percent in 2003. She said this in a message on Friday (October 14) on the occasion of National Sanitation Month and Global Handwashing Day. Sheikh Hasina said that the rate of open defecation was 44 percent in 2003. Now it is almost zero. This success of Bangladesh has been appreciated internationally. Many projects related to water, sanitation and waste management are underway, including the establishment of water laboratories in all districts of the country. The government is working on human resource development, construction of environmentally friendly improved toilets, innovation and application of sustainable technologies to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal-6.
