7 thousand 459 doctors are OSD in government hospitals
"Wherever I go, I hear that there is no doctor in the hospital" - Health Minister said. Samant Lal Sen. However, the Ministry of Health and Directorate of Health have appointed 7,459 doctors as Officers on Special Duty (OSD), which is 21 percent of the number of government doctors. Being on special duty means that these doctors are away from providing treatment in government hospitals. This is one of the reasons for shortage of doctors in hospitals. Due to shortage of doctors in government hospitals, patients do not get services in many cases. There is a tendency to bring patients to Dhaka without receiving good treatment at the upazila and district levels.
