Chuadanga, where the report started, recorded the highest temperature in the country yesterday – 41.5 degrees Celsius. This is the highest temperature so far this year. Chuadanga falls under Khulna division. Severe heatwave swept through this section yesterday.

An area with maximum temperature above 40 degrees Celsius is considered a severe heat wave. In addition to Khulna division, Rajshahi, Tangail and Pabna districts also experienced severe heat waves. Other parts of the country experienced mild to moderate heat waves. A moderate heat wave swept through the capital Dhaka. 

In such a situation, the Meteorological Department issued a heatwave warning in the country for the next three days yesterday. Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallick, a meteorologist of the Department of Meteorology issued this warning. He told Prothom Alo yesterday that the temperature is unlikely to drop in the next three days; Rather, it may increase. In fact, there will be a heat wave throughout the month of April. However, its level may be more or less from time to time. Also, the excess of water vapor can increase the discomfort.

This meteorologist did not rule out the possibility of extreme heat wave in this month. If the temperature exceeds 42 degrees Celsius, then it is considered as severe heat wave. On April 17 last year, the temperature in Pabna’s Ishwardi was 43 degrees Celsius. This was the highest temperature last year. 

April is the hottest month in the country. The average maximum temperature in this month is 33.2 degrees Celsius. 

The Meteorological Department monitors the weather conditions of 44 stations in the country and presents them daily. According to the notification given yesterday evening, among these 44 stations, only Netrakona and Sylhet had the maximum temperature below 33 degrees Celsius yesterday. Due to the low temperature in Sylhet, it rained yesterday. Sylhet received the highest rainfall in the country yesterday – 13 mm. 

According to the forecast given by the Department of Meteorology, the regions of the country including Khulna division, which are experiencing severe heat waves, may continue. Apart from this, mild to moderate heat waves are flowing over Chandpur, Moulvibazar districts along with rest of Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions and Barisal division. This situation may remain the same today.

AKM Nazmul Haque, meteorologist of Meteorological Department told Prothom Alo yesterday that the area of ​​severe heat wave may not increase on Saturday (today). However, areas of mild to moderate heat waves may increase.

Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions are out of mild to moderate heat wave. Meteorologist Nazmul Haque said that such conditions may exist even today in these two sections.

However, even in this heat, the Meteorological Department has predicted rain in some areas. Accordingly, there may be temporary gusty or gusty wind or rain with thunder in two places of Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions including Comilla, Kishoreganj region. Along with that, there may be scattered hailstorms at some places. Apart from this, the weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky elsewhere in the country. 

The temperature in the capital increased by 2 degrees

Yesterday, the maximum temperature of the capital was recorded at 38.4 degrees Celsius. In the previous 24 hours, the temperature was 36.8 degrees Celsius. In other words, the temperature has increased by about 2 degrees Celsius in a span of 24 hours. 

According to the Meteorological Department, the water vapor content in the air is very high during this heat wave. Sweating more. And for that, people feel uncomfortable inside.

Dr. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Emeritus Professor of Medicine Department advised to drink a lot of water, not to wear colored clothes and to drink salted water. ABM Abdullah. He told Prothom Alo yesterday that the sun should be avoided as far as possible. But working people have to stay in the sun. They should try to stay in the shade without being in the sun continuously. 

Professor Abdullah also warned that heatstroke may occur at this time. He said, prolonged exposure to the sun, especially working people, the elderly and children can cause this problem.
