Mehedi Hasan Miraz has spent six years in international one-day cricket. He started as a right-arm off-spinner. From there, he became an all-rounder who could bat a few times. In the last two years, he has established himself as an all-rounder who can bat at number eight.
However, Miraj believes he is a complete all-rounder who performed brilliantly with both bat and ball in the Under-19 World Cup held at home in 2016. He was the tournament's best with 12 wickets and 242 runs with the bat.
Miraj may get a chance to bat regularly in the top-middle order in the World Cup being held in India. For example, he played a very effective innings of 57 runs against Afghanistan, batting at one down. Before that, he was named man of the match for taking 3 wickets with the ball. After his royal performance, Miraj said that he wants to give a performance like that in the Under-19 World Cup.
"If I can put in an all-round performance on a big stage like the World Cup, it will be a big achievement for me and the team. I dream of showing a performance like the 2016 U-19 World Cup," Miraj said in the post-match press conference.
Miraj played a match-winning innings of 81 runs against Afghanistan at home last year, coming in lower. He played a match-winning innings of 100 runs against India last year. After his match-winning century against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup, Miraj scored a fifties while batting at the top order in two warm-up matches for the World Cup.
Overall, he is now confident with the bat, 'I started getting runs from the India series. After that, I worked a lot on my batting. I thought about how I can bat better and contribute to the team. I have batted in different positions, so the team has given me great support.'
Even if he gets runs with the bat, Miraz is still not sure what situation he will have to bat in which order in which match. He is ready for any batting order. However, he considers it a big opportunity to play at the top, 'Different positions mean different situations. However, since the team has given me the opportunity, I want to take it. I believe I can bat. Playing in any batting order in the top-middle is a much bigger opportunity than batting at eight.
