Journalist shot dead in Companiganj clash

Local journalist Borhan Uddin Mozakker, who was shot during last Friday's clash in Basurhat, Companiganj, Noakhali, has died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

He died at around 10:45 pm on Saturday. Fakhruddin, the elder brother of the deceased journalist Mozakker, told Samakal about this.

Journalist Borhan is a correspondent for Dainik Bangla Samachar and Barta Bazar online news portal. He has completed his Masters from Noakhali University College. He is the son of Noab Ali of Charpakira Union in Companiganj, Mojak.

Last Friday, a gunfight broke out between Basurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza and Upazila Awami League Organizing Secretary Mizanur Rahman Badal's group in the eastern market of Chaparashir Hat in Companiganj. Seven people, including journalist Mozzak, were shot while gathering news. The injured journalist was first shifted to Noakhali General Hospital and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital when his condition deteriorated. He was in the ICU there.

Noakhali Police Superintendent Md. Alamgir Hossain told Samakal that he had heard the news of the death of the journalist who was shot. Efforts are underway to contact the deceased's family.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has expressed his condolences over the death of journalist Borhan Uddin Mozakker. In a condolence message, the minister expressed his condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased and prayed for the forgiveness of the departed soul.

In addition, Noakhali District Awami League President AHM Khairul Anam Selim Chowdhury expressed his condolences.
