The incident took place on Tuesday night in Hazari Goli area of Kotwali police station of Chittagong city. Later, the joint forces conducted raids and arrested several people.
A few shop owners of Hazari Gully, on condition of anonymity, said that a Dhaka journalist recently made negative comments about ISKCON. A photocard of that comment was shared on Facebook by a businessman of Hazari Gully. Based on that post, a group of local religious followers vandalized the businessman's shop yesterday evening. At the same time, they blocked the youth who posted. At this time, they shouted various slogans demanding the punishment of the young man.
Local and law enforcement sources said that when the joint forces came forward to control the situation, they were also attacked. 10 people were injured. Later, along with Kotwali and Panchlaish police stations, the army took position on the spot.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Mass Media) Kazi Md. Tarek Aziz said the poster was blocked. The police and the army went and rescued him. When the joint forces moved forward to control the situation, they were attacked. He said that law enforcement officers are deployed at the spot. The situation is under control.
